Getting Older

Welcome to our little blurb on the web, as it is my Birthday I get the honour of being the first blogger. In the future you can quickly tell who wrote the Blog as I will write my text in blue and Karen will use purple.

Thirty-Five... hard to convince myself right now that I'm not 50. But that can be attributed to the past week at work, starting with last Sunday night. With recent upgrades at the marina come problems and one such problem involved coming in to work during the night during low tide (only time we will get low enough tides to do the job for the next six months). Normally working at night is something I enjoy, but with a severe storm warning being issued by Environment Canada and 50-100mm of rain in the forecast you can excuse me for wanting to call-in with a "cough".

Well the storm was all that it was cracked up to be and it effected the tides and ultimately our job, forcing us to come in for the next four nights for a minimum of four hours to get the job done, now I enjoy getting time in-half as much as the next guy (going to help with the baby coming), but going back in each day for our regular 8-4 shift was not fun. We coined the week "the Days of the Living Dead" as we shambled around like zombies in the cold November rain. I fortunately was able to call on my experience as a night owl to make it thru but my comrade in arms Clint was a wreck (rough not getting his usual 12hours of beauty sleep:)).

With my work week done I looked forward to relaxing and getting older with Karen and Grady but that was not to be the case as last night as I was welcoming in my Birthday with a couple of "pops" (don't worry I don't usually drink at midnight) I received a call from our security at the marina that a boat was sinking... so with Clint I spent the first four hours of my birthday containing the spill from the boat and securing it for recovery by divers. Good Times.

I can handle lack of sleep pretty well, but at this present time its tough as I really should be getting things in order for the coming baby with Karen. But as usual she's been a rock and allowed me to get sleep while she looks after our little monster Grady (more on the Lil Devil later) and goes about preparing for number 2. Im one very fortunate guy to have such a strong women at my back. Shes in full nesting mode right now and that's not easy to do when you have a 3 foot tall cyclone following you around undoing any cleaning you do. Im going to "man-up" this week and get into the program and make sure things are ready for her as I have a feeling that the "bump" wants out and soon.

Im really getting excited about the babies arrival, the sex of this child is weighing more on me than during Grady's. Im not sure why but I do know that Ive flipped back and forth on whether its a girl or boy at least ten times. As of this moment Im back on the boy wagon but try me again tomorrow.

With the sex guessing game comes the name game and this is a favorite of Karen's (read not mine) she has at least two pages with names on it. I think we've narrowed it down to a few for each sex but I could be wrong. I'll not divulge the choices as that's no fun.

Grady is my pride and joy, a day doesnt go that he doesn't make me smile, laugh and look an in amazement. Hes ever evolving and learning (at alarming rates) and has become quite the character. He's also trying his hardest to find out what he can and can't get away with and this often involves his new "tantrum tactic" that he's taken with him to day-care. I guess we just have to be patient with him and try to convince him that its not necessary to throw a fit to get what he wants (terrible twos??).
We are both are wondering how he will take to the new baby and in preparation for this have been for the past month reading as many books to him about new babies and getting him to talk to the "baby in Moms belly", give hugs and kiss which I think has caused a little confusion as he now refers to anybodies belly as "baby". He is also now a veteran of sleeping in his own single bed, we've explained that his crib is now the babies bed but Im not sure he fully understands. We are both really excited to see him as a big brother we just hope he's as excited to be one. Will just have to remember to make sure he's not forgotten in the next few months.
Well I end this blog here and hope you enjoyed the read, Im going to try to make it a daily thing.
Cheers John
